From the Des Moines Beach Park Historic District southward to Saltwater State Park and Redondo Park, the waterfront is full of public beaches, natural areas, scenic lookouts, and endless recreational opportunities, Mid-shoreline is a 900 slip, full service marina, complete with fishing pier, boardwalk, nearby shops and eateries, and a Farmers Market held Saturdays, June through September.
A second commercial district, along Pacific Highway South, provides a variety of retail stores, lodging, offices, and light industry. The city is also home to Highline Community College and a Central Washington University satellite campus.
Des Moines’ many lovely neighborhoods offer numerous housing options from affordable apartments and senior housing to high end waterfront estates.
